The wiring and how to use an analog input or output in your PLC program can be tricky. Most often you will see digital example PLC programs and in my Structured Text Tutorial most of the examples are digital programs. How do you scale an analog signal in Function Block Diagram? This article will give you answers to this and much more.

First of all, we are going to look at some numbers. A PLC can only work with the values 0 and 1. This is great for digital signals. They are either 0 or 1 and thereby relatively easy to work with.

Mitsubishi Electric MELSEC iQ-F FX5 User Manual

But what about analog signals? As Wikipedia writes, analog signals are continuous signals that can vary over time. For example you can have a volt analog signal.

This signal can vary from 0 to 10 volts and have any voltage level in between. And since analog signals are continuous, this signal will always at any time represent a voltage level. If you look at the diagram below, you will see that the analog signal can have any value between 0 and 10 volts.

The question is now: how do a PLC deal with all these different values? We cannot represent it with boolean values, because they can only have the values 0 and 1.

As mentioned before a PLC can only work with the two values 0 and 1. But that does stop us from working with analog signals. Because what is really going on, is that the PLC works with binary numbers. This is due to the fact that a PLC or a microcontroller is really just advanced electrical circuits made out of transistors.

Since a transistor can only be either on or off, these two states will then represent the values 0 and 1. But this only gives us two states. Very useful for digital signals, but not for analog. To understand how analog inputs work in a PLC you have to understand binary numbers.Bring outstanding performance and impactful capabilities to your machines. Could you please provide me with the required ladder code for that. An example of converting the value of the analog signal SD and SD from an integer to a real number.

Thanks so much. I've connected 2V to each of the analogue modules. Posted 23 Aug It is necessary to organize a registry reset at PLC startup. That's what I did in the attached program. Posted 24 Aug Posted 13 Mar After turning off the PLC and back on it is okay now. I am going to have to try to get it working for the digital to analog next. Sos about the earlier post. I'm new to mitsubishi analog. This library have all you need with helpful chm datasheet. If can't register i may send you it on your e-mail. Thanks for the reply! I have the block now, the problem is that I'm not that familiar regarding the block. If I have 8 analog inputs to be monitored in the plc does it mean I need to analog blocks?

I usually use H for ma. This mode provide check wirebrake if output lower then 3 ma.

HeadAddress if you place this 2 modules without any intelligent modules before, so addresses will 0 1st module and 1 2ed module. I just leave mine as a default "4". Also the "RawToEng" block, this one is included into the Elements? Posted 28 Nov Try without this scaling functionality first to make sure it works.

Less program equals easier to debug, so start easy then add functionality. Posted 23 Sep Posted 29 Sep I have added all the logic and it works also. Like or something, untill you reset the whole PLC.

What could be the problem. I have tried using the 2nd special module connected at the end, but It showed similar problem after few hours of running. THis shows the Special blocks fx2n-4ad are okay.
